(updated 12/16/2020) The first national election under pandemic conditions has passed its most significant deadline – the date and time of voting by the Electoral College.
Much more attention has been paid to central count process in this election because of the huge expansion of remote voting on paper aka Vote By Mail or Vote At Home or Absentee voting. Because eligibility checking is a serious challenge with remote voting, signature verification is of special interest this election as are any postmark requirements and the uses of unattended outdoor drop boxes. As an election watcher I am helping to prepare others for what they might get a chance to see now that fewer citizens are visiting polling places where they would see most of the election processes and instead are only mailing or dropping off a home-voted paper ballot.
